All-Ireland warden needed for Ministry of Healing
(from Elaine Whitehouse, Communications Dept, RCB)
The Church’s Ministry of Healing (CMH) this year reported another
successful year in which much had been achieved and new ground
opened up.
Key events in the Belfast centre during the past year included a
national thanksgiving healing service in St Anne’s Cathedral, a
conference and a seminar on Listening and Ministry, a Prayer
Counselling training course and the launch of three new National Key
Venue Lunchtime Healing Services.
Meanwhile, the Dublin centre celebrated good progress under the
guidance of Priest in Charge, the Rev Cecily West, and reported on
healing services held in St Michan’s Church and a service of
celebration of the 70th anniversary of the CMH held in Christ Church
Cathedral. The diocesan committees submitted examples from across
Ireland of how the theory of the Ministry of Healing had been put
into practice over the past year.
The Very Rev Robert Townley of the Diocese of Meath and Kildare,
proposing the report, said the Executive of the Ministry of Healing
was “committed without reserve” to its task but the ministry badly
needed an all-Ireland warden. Dean Townley urged any clergy who had
“a mature understanding of the healing ministry” to ask themselves
whether they were called to this particular ministry full time.
Echoing Dean Townley’s sentiments the Rev David Catterall said he
had “never met a group of people so devoutly Christian, so utterly
immersed in making Jesus Christ real through relationship” as he had
in his own years as warden. He also urged lay people to consider
doing some form of work in the ministry.
The CMH thanked those who had given support, funds and their time to
make the work of the ministry of healing possible.
