A scholarship to commemorate the former Dean of Christ Church Cathedral, the Very Revd Desmond Harman, is to be established by the Bishops’ Appeal Advisory Committee.
News of the scholarship was included in the report of the Standing Committee of the General Synod to the General Synod of the Church of Ireland, and was announced to members of the General Synod by the Revd Shane Forster (Armagh) who proposed the report.
Describing Dean Harman as a “well known, much respected and dearly loved priest, colleague and friend,” Mr Forster told members of the General Synod that “we in the Church of Ireland owe a great deal of gratitude to the late Dean Harman, a faithful servant of the Church, and again express our sympathies to his wife and family.
Described by Mr Forster as “a very appropriate memorial,” the scholarship will each year facilitate an African priest to study development or peace and reconciliation studies in Dublin.
Dean Harman served on the Bishops’ Appeal Advisory Committee for 28 years and was projects co-ordinator when he stood down from the Committee in 1999
