Bill No. 4 , in the name of the Dean of Ferns and Mr W.F. Baker concerns the disbanding of the Commission on Church Buildings, which has done good work but has not been used by dioceses since its early years.

The General Synod in 2008 passed Motion No 4, as follows: "That the unexpended allocation held by the Commission be transferred back to the Representative Church Body and that the Representative Church Body be requested to present a Bill to the General Synod of 2009 to disband the Commission."  Accordingly Bill No 4 is presented to the General Synod for consideration.

Proposing the Bill, The Dean of Ferns said 'We face new challenges in disposing of redundant churches and those regulations which led to the setting up of the Commission on Church Buildings are now out of date. The Representative Body and the Property Committee now largely deal with these issues'.

The Bill passed its second reading and is now clear for its third reading on Sunday.
