In proposing the Bill to appoint ecumenical and honorary lay canons to Belfast Cathedral, the Dean, Very Rev Dr Houston Finlay said, 'We now have a neutral site that people of all denominations are comfortable to come into'.

He added, 'In shaping and in forming interdenominational worship, we have been blessed with the engagement of people and clergy of all denominations. We would like to honour those from our own lay members in the Church as well as from other denominations.'

The Bill was seconded by the Archdeacon of Belfast, Venerable Barry Dodds and was passed for a third reading on Sunday.
