Speaking on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church, the Very Revd Kieran McDermot said it was a privilege to see ecclesiastical democracy in action and to witness to the diversity of the Church.

He said, “the past forty years have been a fertile period of work. What has been achieved has been an extraordinarily comfort together and shows God’s grace working among us.” He noted that the past year has been a difficult one for the Roman Catholic Church but expressed his thankfulness for the support of the Church of Ireland.

Concluding he said, “My prayer for you is that as you leave this sacred place tomorrow that your hearts will continue to burn within you as you tell the story and live it.”
