General Synod 2010

Printable versionRepresentative of the Church in Wales Speaks to General Synod

The Very Revd Alun Hawkins, Dean of Bangor (Wales) today addressed General Synod on behalf of the Church in Wales.

He confessed to being a “Synod Junkie” and said he found his time at the Church of Ireland General Synod “fascinating, enlightening and deeply reassuring.” He highlighted some of aspects of the Church of Ireland General Synod that resonated with him including Clergy Training, refreshing ministry and Child Protection. He said that the Diocese of Bangor is twinned with the Diocese of Dublin and Glendalough and that clergy in his Diocese visit Dublin regularly.

He recalled some of the history of the Diocese of Bangor noting that it’s Cathedral has the oldest witness.

Recalling the Synod Service in St Patrick’s Cathedral he said that the patron Saint was “another Welshman made good.”

So I do thank you again for your warm welcome. Closing in Welsh he offered “genuine prayers from your sister Church just across the sea.”
