General Synod 2011

Printable versionReport of the Liturgical Advisory Committee

Proposing the report of the Liturgical Advisory Committee, the Bishop of Cashel and Ossory, the Rt Rev Michael Burrows, told Synod members that the Committee had given its attention to the use of Church space, the liturgical use of oil and the the provision of a prayer for use with children, which it was hoped would come to Synod as legislation in due course. The "Singing the Psalms" project had been encouraged and was to be recommended for the use of the Church of Ireland, and a recently completed work by the Rev Canon Michael Kennedy was to be officially launched on the second day of the Synod session.

Seconding the Report, the Rev Canon Gerald Field invited feedback and suggestions on the Committee's proposals. During the debate on the Committee's Report a number of Synod members spoke of their own experiences of the creative use of the liturgy. The Committee's report was received.
