The General Synod has passed Motion No 7, appointing a committee to produce a Clergy Code of Duty and Conduct and to report to the Synod in 2012 .

Proposing the motion, the Ven Robin Bantry White (Diocese of Cork) told Synod members that a succinct statement of the requirements in relation to the duty and conduct of clergy was needed due to the diffuse nature of the provisions already existing in the Canons and Prayer Book. The Archdeacon emphasised to members that the intention was to clarify the existing provisions rather than to add to them.

Speakers in debate were concerned that any eventual code should take into account the need to protect clergy as well as to define the Church's requirements of them.
