General Synod 2011

Printable versionReport of the Church of Ireland Council for Mission

Proposing the report of the Council for Mission, the Rev Paul Hoey (Diocese of Clogher) referred to developments in relation to the interchangeability of ministry, and told Synod that the Council would be keen to stimulate imaginative debate on possible opportunities for missional experiment arising from those developments.  Mr Hoey spoke of recent initiatives in the area of mission and asked that Mr Ronnie Briggs, Mission Director of CMS Ireland, be invited to talk to the Synod about CMS's "Discover" programme.  Addressing the Synod, Mr Briggs explained that the "Discover" programme was a new resource designed to help people talk about mission in a home group or church study setting.  Consisting of a resource pack designed to lead a group through seven sessions, it was hoped the programme would inspire, resource and equip parishes to play their part in the mission of the Church.

Captain Colin Taylor of the Church Army also addressed the Synod in relation to the "Back to Church Sunday" initiative and highlighted the availability of resources to the Church for its use in fulfilling the call to mission.

The Synod received the Council's report.
