The third and final day of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland is now underway in the Armagh City Hotel.

Following worship led by the Bishop of Limerick and Killaloe, the Rt Revd Kenneth Kearon, the results of the Church of Ireland Central Communications Board photography competition were announced. The competition, sponsored by Ecclesiastical Insurance, focused on Church Life in Action. The competition was judged by independent professional photographs.

There were six winners. Three for special mention included Herbie Sharman, Lynn Glanville and Pauric McGroder. Third prize went to Andrew Brannigan. Second prize was presented to Sean O’Brien. The overall winner of the competition went to Lillian Webb from the Parish of Celebridge and Straffan with Newcastle–Lyons.

The caption competition was won by Dr Ken Fennelly.

The Archbishop of Armagh paid tribute to Edgar Turner for his attendance at 67 General Synods – 56 of those as an observer. He thanked him for his diligence in serving the Church of Ireland over the years.

Bills 1 to 7 (excluding Bill No 6 which was withdrawn) will enter their third stage.

Later this morning the report of the Select Committee on Human Sexuality in the Context of Christian Belief and the report of the Council for Mission will be received.
