The following draft Bill will be debated during
this years General Synod. For further information on amendments and
passage through General Synod please contact the General Synod Press Office.
BILL NO 9
(regarding Services of Initiation)
Explanatory Memorandum
The Form and Manner of Making, Ordaining and Consecrating of
Bishops, Priests and Deacons (1662) remains in the Prayer Book
without any alteration whatsoever except as provided by the statutes
of the Church of Ireland when Holy Orders were opened to men and
women.
This Bill provides for ordination services in modern language
based on the Ordinal in the book of Alternative Occasional Services.
They have, however, been carefully revised in the light of the
International Anglican Liturgical Consultation at Berkley,
California in 2001, a conference at which the Church of Ireland was
represented.
